Sonia Greenfield Selected in Open Submission Reading

The Marie Alexander Poetry Series is pleased to announce that Sonia Greenfield has been selected as the winner of our most recent open submission reading for Letdown, a hybrid memoir that touches on the emotional dangers inherent to giving birth and the vulnerabilities that comes with that experience. A valentine to her firstborn son, this book encompasses love and guilt and joy and disappointment—all in the same moment—as fertility issues arise and a diagnosis of her son's autism complicate motherhood in unexpected ways. A much-needed chronicle in this day and age, Letdown finds the perfection of family life subjective and ever-changing, showing how, if we’re lucky, the difficult moments are outnumbered by the ones we hold as totems of transcendence.
