In 2017, the Marie Alexander Poetry Series will have an open submission period during the month of July.
We don’t just publish prose poetry but are also looking for innovative collections of flash fiction, short lyric essays, and other hybrid forms. Should you feel your manuscript a complete and good fit for our series (at least 50 pages in length, with at least half of your pieces in short prose form), please send your work.
Just this year, we are going green, asking for electronic submissions—we ask that you send no more than one manuscript as an attachment in PDF form only, naming the file with your full name (LastnameFirstname.PDF). Please do not send your attachment in any other format than PDF and make sure that the elecronic file resembles exactly how you’d like the manuscript to look on the page.
The body of your email should be a cover letter of no more than 500 words with complete contact information, any biographical or acknowledgment information relevant to you and your manuscript, as well as notification of any simultaneous submissions.
Please send that submission to our editor, Nickole Brown, at firstname.lastname@example.org
Should your manuscript be considered for further reading, we may ask you to snail-mail a paper copy at a later date.
An award of $1,000 and publication by White Pine Press will be given to the poet of the chosen collection.
Submissions must be sent between July 1 and 31, 2017. No entries sent after that date will be read. All writers will be notified by January 1, 2018. There is no entry fee. Submissions will not be read blind and are only open to US citizens.

Before submitting, it's always a good idea to become familiar with the work we've published. Please enjoy a sample of work from books we've published.
